  1. I have used Hairy Money for counting mixed coins. Each hair has a value of 5. Pennies have no hair and are added at the end. Nickels have one, dimes have two, etc. Then we count the hairs by 5's and then add pennies. I don't know where I got this from but it works and the kids love it. I also have Tic-Tac-Toe games for money. One card uses pennies and dimes and the other uses pennies and nickels. The card has mixed values on it. The children reach into a bag that has 3 of each coin. They pull out 3 coins, find the value and cover it. As the kids get better at it you will see them intently feeling the coins to get the ones they need to make Tic-Tac-Toe.
