Thanks, as all the time, to @goed.gedaan for his glorious modifying.

PS – In case you’re questioning why my movies will all the time be in English, the reply is easy: extra individuals on the earth converse English than Dutch. I need this channel to be accessible and comprehensible for as many individuals as potential.

  1. Great video! Another great activity (low cost); around the country there are many farmers who are set up for visitors often with a play area, home made ice cream, cuddling animals etc.

  2. No country is perfect but The Netherland is a good country. Comparing with other countries, it's right up there with the very best. Esp. For families and students

  3. I always recommend the Batariawerf in Lelystad! This is a shipyard where volunteers are building ships they did back in the 1700s AKA the Dutch golden age.

For everyone having an interest in history or ships, pirates or wants to know more about the Dutch golden age, this is the one thing you should do!

They’ve already build a ship like that called the Batavia, which also appeared in a couple of movies! Most famous being Michiel de Ruyter (The Admiral in English)

Small plus is that Batavia stad (a Huge outlet) is realllly close by 😉

  4. If you ever decide to redo this video, or make another one like this, maybe try to add images and visuals of the attractions you mention. It makes the activities so much clearer than just describing them as places where they can do stuff. Was a bit disappointed tbh you kinda skipped over de Efteling. Can't wait for your next video!

  6. Some real summerfun is going to the beach at night to watch Zeevonk, check out the FB Zeevonk groups and get your kids out of bed around midnight to have a magical time at the beach! 😍

  7. Unfortunately you've completely missed out the Summercamps from YMCA Nederland! They've got 2 organisations: Y-camps for specific children with extra needs (like Kids with sugar-dissease, kids from one-parent-families, etc) and Fun2Stay for "normal" Kids (with themed camps like game-camp and musical-camp). I've been leading summercamps for both organisations for years now..

  8. They don't have it in other countries? And you have to hear it from moms in those other countries? Encourage them to get something going in their countries!
You are absolutely right these things are great. It's probably one of the reasons Dutch kids are said to be happy kids. I can only hope people in other countries will come and take those ideas to make their kids happy.

  9. Fun fact: the first museums were something for the richer people. Often a place where groups came together and do scientific experiments as well as collect rarities (like exotic animals or archeological finds). The oldest museum in the Netherlands is exactly that. It shows some of the oldest (magnetic) coils and a lot of fossils and some minerals. They have a place where they tell you about its history too. It's not suitable for young children though. I'd say 12 and up. I went there as a student. What it had to do with human development and evolution still isn't entirely clear to me, but it was a fun experience.
We also went to Het Vrolik museum. Which is located in the Amsterdam medical center and shows a bunch of medical stuff from the past. From what happens to your skeleton with a long-term vitamin D deficiency to all kinds of things that can go wrong during gestation. Probably some other stuff too but we didn't have the time to go through the entire place systemically. Again not suitable for young children. I think that it's too abstract for them to comprehend past very simplified explanations and it's not a spectacularly designed or decorated place, it's way more focused on the actual medical stuff (including medical students giving tours etc.).

What we do here, or many people do if they live close enough, when children are maybe 8 years and up is something you did last year. We went to Het Eise Eisinga planetarium. I've seen the place through several renovations. It's interesting every time to see what they have added. It used to be just the room with the planetarium and the option to go up to view the wooden mechanism with an explanation of how it came to be and a small shop for souvenirs.

  11. For people living in the south I would recommend Toverland in Sevenum. It has rides that are for younger and some older kids. It s 34 euro which isn’t cheap but it is totally worth it.

  12. Best deal on Efteling tickets is subscribing to their newsletter. As a birthdaypresent, you get 25% off if you buy at least 4 tickets (so 3 pay full price and 1 is free). You need to visit in the month of your birthday but it's a great deal…. You do need to bring an ID to proove your or someone from your party's birthday.

  13. I visit Duinrel when my kids were little and it took us 3 hours to get there. Back in the day I lived in Stadskanaal (the province of Groningen) and never gave that much attention to all those smaller parcs in the neighbourhood. Sure I knew 'Drouwenerzand', de 'boomkroonpad' (you can walk over bridges through the trees), dierentuin Emmen (now Wildlands) and besides 'Slagharen' there was 'Schloss Dankern' (just a 15 minute drive from the border in Germany). And ofcourse we visite Giethoorn (Dutch Venice). But I overlooked so many things in the province where I live today (Drenthe), and it was just around the corner and the truth is perhaps there are more things coming while I'm writing 🙂

We do have a plopsaland in Coevorden, but we also have the home of Vincent van Gogh (which is a museum). There is a 'Sprookjeshof) a fairytale theme parc in Zuidlaren and if you want to dive in history there is also a 'Hunebedcentrum' in Borger, 'Veenpark' Barger-Compascuum or 'Ellert en Brammert' in Schoonloo. "Kabouterland' in Exloo is a 'dwarf' theme parc and for a matter of fact it is also a zoo with only small animals. They work together with 'Wonderwereld' in Ter Apel which is also a small zoo but a different theme (more fantasy/fairytale like) and I believe you can get a discount when you visit them both.

The 'gemeente' where I live is Borger-Odoorn and it is labeled as 'Cittaslow' which is an international label (Cittaslow has a webpage, so you can read what it exactly means, if you want to know it exactly). In a nutshell it means that we don't forget the history (and take the best parts of it) and innovate to keep it more nature friendly (agriculture for example). Our major gave aways packages of flower seeds to kids and explained that those where for the bees and why it was that important. But there are a lot of examples, there is for example a place in Valthermond where you can visit pigs (no kidding) they are just walking on a piece of land. Ofcourse they are from a farmer (who sells meat), but those are having a better life than those from a stable. The same goes with cheese, you can visit a small 'kaasmakerij' and you the proces and you can buy milk related stuff. The same goes for vegetables, we have small stands near the road, and you can see how they raised those and I even buy eggs from a farmer where you can see that the chicken are having a happy life because they are just walking around on a large piece of land.. and believe it or not they aren't even more expensive than those from Aldi.

    I guess I'm living in a kind of Museum/Theme parc 🙂

  16. Where I live we have the "Jeugdwielertour" for kids 7-14 yrs old. It's 6 days of biking at least 1 hour and then doing an activity (swimming, playbackshow, midgetgolf, mini-olympics) and biking back at the end of the day. It's a group of about 150 kids total touring, with music, traffic handlers, EHBO and repair crew. And a friendly competition going on as
they're divided into small groups and all is sponsored by local shops/organisations so parents don't pay all that much for a week full of entertainment. This is the 2nd to last week, the last week here is for Speelstad, which is for 6-12 y old. No parents allowed, just pure joy for the kids. Building huts, acting, arts and crafts, singing and eating patat, pannenkoeken and candy with your mates. If the weather is warm enough there's a waterslide and water games as well. They love it and there's about 300 of them each day running around enjoying themselves.
With my kids I tend to go on a trip with the train each year. There are special discounts available which makes it all the more fun. Going to a far away city by train to go to a museum or zoo, it's an event they look forward to each year. Memorable times 😁.

  17. Here is a fun idea for when your kid is about 12-14 yrs: go on a 1-1 bicycle trip with him/her. You can cycle practically anywhere on paths completely separate from roads with cars. The best thing is to go West to East, or South to North, because you’ll have the wind mostly behind you. You stay in B&Bs on the way. Count on on 50km/day to 100km/day depending on how fit you are and what you think you may encounter on the way in terms of interest. One possibility is e.g. to go from the Rotterdam area through the Betuwe to Arnhem. You can plot a route where you won’t see a single car all day, every day, see lovely villages with church spires rising from leafy trees, fields with cows drinking from pools formed by the banks of the Rhine or the Waal, follow the the meandering of the Vlist and consider that you never knew such little winding rivers even existed in the Netherlands. On the way you visit art exhibitions in a restored fortress of the Waterlinie etc etc.
Another option is to take the mainline cycle path through the dunes from The Hague, going North all the way to Texel and then take the small, bikes and pedestrians only, ferry to Vlieland.
To get back home, you take the train, with your bike.

  20. Hi Jovie… adding to the list of summer entertainment, there are also animalparks like Beekse Bergen where you can see (wild) animals from your car as you driver through the park. One disclaimer : Don't leave the car and keep the windows closed.

  21. Kindervakantie week! It sounds like Jeugdland. I live in a small village so there is one organisation for the whole village. In my village there is also a story that is the line throughout the week. I have been an actor for this several times. Most of the times there are some kind of villains and the children have to do several things during the week so they can save the day. Building things, etc. I have been a black knight, a kidnapper of some of the campleaders and being thrown in a police van by actual police at the last day of the week. Couldn’t wait to have that happen because the kids were so involved in the story, the ‘kidnapping team’ was afraid we would get attacked by the kids. 😂 It is very popular by kids and helps the parents who mostly have to go back to work. The kids are divided in groups and would eat dinner at a different house each day. So the parents get fed and deadtired kids back each day.

  23. Oh how I would love to have a trusted housekeeper to come in and keep my old lady house clean and tidy on a weekly basis. I keep it neat, but these days the dust collectors have taken over to the point that it looks quite like one of those haunted houses that would turn any prospective candidate a'lunging to run away and never look back. Alas.🌹

  24. Try the Archeon in Alphen aan de Rijn. A great themepark about the history of The Netherlands with actors acting as Roman soldiers and other characters who, for instance teach the kids marching like in a real army. There is also an open air theatre where you get a sword fighting show and lots of fun activities for an unforgettable day out. 🙂
