I have a question: is it possible for any typical kid to mount a horse unassisted? I'm asking because I am writing a novel with a main character who is 6-8 years old and they are traveling by themselves but with a horse and I currently write that the character taps the horses knees to get the animal to kneel before he mounts the horse. The horse has a saddle and is well trained. Would it be possible for a child of this size but with equestrian skill to be able to freely ride a horse without needing an assistant to boost them up?
