  16. I, LOVE, Hawaii's state flag. It feels like a potent rebuke of Hawaii's unwilling lack of independence. To start, It's explicitly parodying the American flag, the natural beauty and rainbow colorations of Hawaii have been muted into the off-color red, white, and navy blues of America. It feels oppressed and muted with the stripes almost becoming bars, signifying Hawaii's natural identity is trapped inside the USA. And the Union Jack in the corner is like the asterisk for Empire, showing that whatever imperial goals America has in obtaining Hawaii, they descend from Britain's imperial goals.

    And stealing the Union Jack's identity for your own and misusing it is the perfect metaphor for Colonialism.

    This flag is the greatest subtweet via flag design I've ever seen. The whole thing is a cry for help and a blatant condemnation of their capture by the US.
